Today’s topic is “Opening presentation”. I will introduce you how to create effective opening presentation. Opening presentation is critical to conduct your presentation persuasive and effective because first impression never comes again and establishes your credibility in first 180 seconds.

I will introduce mainframe of opening presentation to you.

Firstly, there are typical opening steps as below:
 1. Welcome
 2. Grab Attention
 3. Establish Credibility
 4. Purpose
 5. Reason to Listen
 6. Main Points
 7. Time frame
When you conduct your presentation persuasive and effective, you should take these steps.

Secondly, I will explain each step in more details.

¶ 1. Welcome

When you stand in front of audience, you should welcome the audience as below. Take a deep breath, smile, and say:
★ “Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for coming.”
★ “Good morning everyone. Thank you for coming.”
★ “Hi everyone. Thanks for coming.”
The most important thing is to start with a bang such as your voice and body actions you like.

¶ 2. Grab Attention

I will show you some tips to grab the audience’s attention as below:
★ Question
★ Surprising/Shocking Statistics
★ Current Event
★ Quotation
★ Anecdote
★ Joke
★ Bonding Statement
You may find it a good idea to use these examples.

¶ 3. Credentials

You should speech about credentials with your sincere as below:
★ “I’ve been working as a marketing consultant for the Chinese division of Pan Pacific Consultants for the last sixteen years.”

¶ 4. State Purpose

★“Today, I’d like to tell you how we, Pan Pacific Consultants, can help your company to enter the Chinese market effectively.”
You should tell the audience the purpose of your presentation simply and briefly.

¶ 5. Reasons to Listen

You should address reasons to listen to the audience.
The audience has mainly three questions as below;
★ Why should I listen to you?
★ What’s in it for me?
★ What is the benefit from me?
The tip for answering these questions is to stress benefit of your presentation!

¶ 6. Outline Main Points

Tell the audience what you are going to talk about:
★“I’ve divided my talk into three main parts:
 First, I’ll give you some background to…
 Next, I’ll discuss…
 And finally, I’ll outline…

¶ 7. Time Frame

★“My talk will take 30 minutes.”
★“If you have any questions, feel free to interrupt at any time.”
★“If you have any questions, please raise your hand.”
